Ralph Hotere is widely regarded as one of the country's most significant painters. He and his friend Colin McCahon were the two New Zealand painters included in the Phaidon Twentieth-Century Book of Art, while his standing as a Maori artist is unique.
This volume celebrates that pre-eminence, bringing together 240 of his major paintings, and includes two long essays on this life and work written by Vincent O'Sullivan "Sketching the Artist" and Kriselle Baker "He Kuaka Marangaranga A Godwit that Hovers".
